Radiation from a Superluminal Source

چکیده
The sweep speed of an electron beam across the face of an oscilloscope can exceed the velocity of light, although of course the velocity of the electrons does not. Associated with this possibility there should be a kind of Čerenkov radiation, as if the oscilloscope trace were due to a charge moving with superluminal velocity.

The spectral and polarization characteristics of the nonspherically decaying radiation generated by polarization currents with superluminally rotating distribution patterns
We present a theoretical study of the emission from a superluminal polarization current whose distribution pattern rotates (with an angular frequency ω) and oscillates (with a frequency Ω) at the same time, and which comprises both poloidal and toroidal components. This type of polarization current is found in recent practical machines designed to investigate superluminal emission. We find that...
متن کاملMorphology of the nonspherically decaying radiation beam generated by a rotating superluminal source.
We consider the nonspherically decaying radiation field that is generated by a polarization current with a superluminally rotating distribution pattern in vacuum, a field that decays with the distance R(P) from its source as R(P)(-1/2), instead of R(P)(-1). It is shown (i) that the nonspherical decay of this emission remains in force at all distances from its source independently of the frequen...
متن کاملA new mechanism for generating broadband pulsar-like polarization
Observational data imply the presence of superluminal electric currents in pulsar magnetospheres. Such sources are not inconsistent with special relativity; they have already been created in the laboratory. Here we describe the distinctive features of the radiation beam that is generated by a rotating superluminal source and show that (i) it consists of subbeams that are narrower the farther th...

We analyze RXTE/PCA observations of the black hole candidate and galactic superluminal source GRO J1655–40 during its recent outburst. We show that during its decay to quiescence, GRO J1655–40 goes through the high, intermediate, and low state (and that at the beginning of its decay it might have even shown signatures of a very high state), just like other black hole candidates. This is the fir...
متن کاملFrequency spectrum of focused broadband pulses of electromagnetic radiation generated by polarization currents with superluminally rotating distribution patterns.
We investigate the spectral features of the emission from a superluminal polarization current whose distribution pattern rotates (with an angular frequency omega) and oscillates (with a frequency omega > omega differing from an integral multiple of omega) at the same time. This type of polarization current is found in recent practical machines designed to investigate superluminal emission. Alth...
